I was eating lunch the first time I ever watched Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, and I found the show so disgusting, I had to put down my sandwich. But I also found it just intriguing enough to watch another episode—which also disgusted me, but intrigued me just enough to watch one more. Soon, I was hooked.

Tim and Eric are a phenomenon unto themselves. You can’t really compare them to anyone, except maybe Andy Kaufman and the way he always had his audience guessing where the joke was—or if there was a joke at all.

There’s just something about them, something about the horrifying makeup, the actors who look like they were picked up from an abandoned bus stop, the outlandish names (Jimes Tooper; Bush Printzel; James Sprunt; Spraynard Kruger), the outrageous concepts (a cop show called C.O.R.B.S. [Cops on Recumbent Bikes], a cell phone that severely burns your face and only has one button [but comes with face soothing cream], a band called Pusswhip Banggang). Love them or hate them, these ain’t your average huckleberry hounds.

The last thing I said before ending our interview was, “It’s amazing that two people with your sense of humor found each other.” Without missing a beat, Tim replied: “I guess that’s one of the many reasons we believe in Christ, and the path that he provides us with is obviously all about faith.”
