Hello there.

I am an award-winning author, journalist, and musician.

My work has been featured in Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, The Believer, and Wax Poetics, among other publications. My debut book, Traveling Soul: The Life of Curtis Mayfield, co-authored with Todd Mayfield, is the definitive biography of soul legend Curtis Mayfield.

My book Better Days Will Come Again: The Life of Arthur Briggs, Jazz Genius of Harlem, Paris, and a Nazi Prison Camp, chronicles the compelling journey of jazz trumpeter Arthur Briggs. This narrative traverses significant historical periods, from the Harlem Renaissance to the Jazz Age in Paris, culminating in Briggs's internment in a Nazi prison camp during World War II. It won the ARSC award for excellence in historical sound research.

My musical compositions have been featured in the Sony film Love Again, FX's Better Things, MTV's The Real World, and GQ.com. I have performed at prominent festivals including Bonnaroo and SXSW.
